Leaps & Passages Deena Frankel describes her three-month solo travels by car through the back roads of the US border states. The experience was a passage between career and retirement, and also coincided with the loss of a parent. The 12,734-mile journey became both a personal quest and an exploration of the state of our country. Her stories and pictures reveal people and places, insights about us as a nation, the freedom and challenges of solo travel as a woman in her 60s with no set itinerary, and the serendipity of a big leap between major phases of life.
Deena also tells her first-person, true stories at venues around New England and has appeared on the Flynn Main Stage and at Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival.
Honduras and Nicaragua Nancy Zimny takes us to two small rural villages in Honduras and Nicaragua where she worked as a member of two different community health teams in 2002 and 2008 respectively. She shows photographs of her travel to these two Central American countries as a health care volunteer and talks about the challenges, rewards, and lessons learned from the people who live there. She also shares what she knows of changes in these countries since her visits.
Baja, Mexico Road Trip On Andrea Asch’s road trip to South Baja, Mexico, you’ll discover a gem of a location with its high desert and bountiful sea life. She shares photos of the incredible Sierra de la Giganta mountains with their slot canyons and large arroyos that reach to the Gulf of Mexico.
She and husband Ernie Kelley stayed in the magical town of Loreto on Mexico’s Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez. For Andrea, the real purpose was to fulfill a life-long desire to see the Grey and Blue whales. Their three-month winter escape turned into five month stay that gave her a captivating perspective of this area before they headed back to Vermont at the end of May.
