COMMUNITY SENIOR CENTER

Bolton Richmond Huntington
Vermont
Welcome

The Community Senior Center is an organization that provides seniors with the opportunity to connect with others -- to laugh, share a meal, or relax over a cup of coffee with both old and new friends. It is a way for seniors to challenge themselves to learn and feel the exhilaration that comes with exploring new ideas, having lively discussions, meeting people who are doing interesting things, and being creative. It's a means for seniors to discover meaningful ways to contribute their talent, expertise, and life experience to the community. The Community Senior Center provides opportunities for seniors to live their lives to the fullest potential.
The mission of the Community Senior Center is to provide opportunities for seniors to connect with others, learn new things, pursue creative interests, be healthy and fit, and discover meaningful ways to contribute to the community.

Help us to expand our growing list of activities and the community enrichment programs and to provide in the near future a physical site to increase opportunities for seniors.

As we’ve expanded our programs, we’ve also discovered other critical needs that should be met. Did you know that social isolation kills more people each year than smoking or obesity? That’s what new research from Brigham Young University shows. It’s especially true for those over 65. We all need human connection. We’ve held meetings in our three towns to discuss this and are now seeking ways to help seniors avoid loneliness and its adverse effects.

You might recall that last year we hoped to launch a campaign for a building. Our long-term goal is still to find and fund a home base that is even more important with our growing list of activities and participants. But for now, we are focused on continuing to increase our programs and the number of seniors
whose lives they can enrich.

However, our success in that regard now has us outgrowing and juggling the free spaces available, including the Richmond and Huntington Libraries, the Richmond Town Center Community Room, and our schools. We are grateful to these generous hosts and will work with them for as much space and time as they can give us, alongside their other needs. But in 2017, it’s clear we need to step up to the cost of renting spaces for our growing list of seniors and programs.

We also need to cover the costs of communicating the availability of programs and activities. While a powerful tool is word of mouth, we have found that printed materials and notices, and advertising and editorial work with our local newspapers have opened the door to our activities for many more seniors. We’re also finding that email newsletters and an improved web site would be effective and welcoming and give our seniors meaningful reasons to get engaged on the internet.

In addition, some of our activities require a fee for professional instructors and lecturers. We hope to offer activity grants that cover these costs for those who find this a financial burden.

To cover all these costs, our 2017 operating budget is $27,000. We are busy applying for grants and other sources of funds, but it’s essential for us to raise money from the community as well.

Please donate what you can to the CSC. We’re grateful for any amount you send us. You can make a personal tax-deductible contribution or one in honor of a family  member, friend or special neighbor.

To make a gift, you can use the online donation button below or you can mail your gift to P.O. Box 508, Richmond, VT 05477.

All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
